Don't Wear Other Peoples' Garbage

Way too often, for some reason, we allow people to dump their garbage on us and we too often wear that garbage for a whole day. . . or, sadly, for a life-time. We allow them to do that. . .to tell us who we are and how we feel about ourselves. Here is a piece about Garbage Truck Philosophy.

Hello! I am Justin O'Shea, a 21 yo university student, from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, northeastern USA. My mate, Shannon from Australia, invited me to join him in this project.
I will tell you my story in my next post.

Subject: LESSON OF THE DAY.......IGNORING OTHER'S GARBAGE!!

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport.

We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly.
So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!'
This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck'.

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around
full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment.

As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally.

Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.
Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets,

so ... Love the people who treat you right.
Pray for the ones who don't.
Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!
Have a garbage-free day!

  1. Great story and even more great bottom line.
If all the people were like your taxi driver, the world will be a paradise.

  2. Yeah, Kimo, "wouldn't it be loverly". . .! ;-)

It could happen. . .and one day I realized it can happen. . .bit by bit. . in me. I got tired of waiting for things to be different.

I had a great-uncle who used to say to me "Justin, you've got to make your own parties. ."
It has to start somewhere so I decided to start,
in my own life, my own day, with the wonderful people all around me.

So bit by bit I began an attitude adjustment. . in my attitudes. Like the taxi driver I decided to work on becoming the kind of guy I wanted to be. . . no body else was going to do it.

It's the ripple effect: if enough of us started doing this life would change all around us. The kind of karma we bring with us spreads 'cuz it touches those around me. When goodness hits the AC it spreads all around us.

You and I can make a difference, Kimo! Let's do it!
